THE POWER OF YOUR PURPOSE

The Power of Your Purpose

By Jayne Morris

Have you ever found yourself asking, ‘Who am I?’, ‘Where am I?’, ‘Why am I where I am?’ or ‘What am I doing here?’ Modern day spiritual messenger, Neale Donald Walsh claims that these are the four fundamental life questions we most commonly ask and yet paradoxically many people go their whole lives never asking, much less answering them.

In our preoccupation with the humdrum of life, accumulation of material possessions, moving up the career ladder, settling with a partner, having children, getting a car, buying a house, getting a better job, buying a better car, moving to a bigger house… it is easy to lose awareness of what life is all about. When we came into this world as a baby we were completely connected to what brought us joy and happiness and knew exactly what we were supposed to do. Yet, as we grew older many of us gradually gave way to external influences and shaped ourselves on the expectations others held for us, rather than following our inner guidance towards the things, people and places that felt fulfilling.

Medical Intuitive Caroline Myss believes that not knowing one’s life purpose can cause health problems because the lack of self-understanding creates all sorts of emotional stress and physical illness in the body. She believes that it is vital for people to connect with their life purpose in order to cope with each stage of their life journey. Without a sense of direction people not only hurt themselves, but hurt others in their lives because they don’t know how to respond appropriately when required to make change. Caroline is concerned that the number of people finding themselves directionless has become a global concern and that it is vital for our collective mind, body and soul for each individual on the planet to connect to their mission.

Often it is not until we get so frustrated with running in the rat race or are physically forced to stop and take stock of our lives due to a life changing event, death of a loved one or serious illness, that we actually stop long enough to contemplate our sense of life purpose.  The moment we start to question what life is really about, I believe we immediately start receiving answers – via intuitive guidance from within. Whether or not we listen to it, trust it or follow it though is another matter! Our ability to listen is dependent on how well we pay attention to the sensations in our body, ideas that drop into our mind, conversations we have with others, and the synchronicities that happen in our lives. When we begin to notice the subtle repetition of messages around us and within us, we connect with the inner guidance we all have, which responds to our where? what? and why?  As we wake up to this guidance we notice the areas of our life that we’ve been playing out of tune and connect with the harmony of our purpose.

We all have abilities and talents that are our true gifts to share with the world.  The things that make us most feel alive, that we enjoy and that we would happily do each and every day of our life for free.  We are all here to enrich the lives of others by experiencing our own life as fully, freely and with as much fun as possible.  We are here to know ourselves as “the light amidst the light” (Neale Donald Walsch). For many of us our sense of our own light has been dimmed by our own self-judgment, comparing ourselves to others and shying away from who we really are. But, in doing this we are not serving anyone, least of all ourselves.  The things we instinctively felt drawn to as children, during our youth and years of young adulthood are an indication of our true passions and purpose, as are the points of difference that we have held all our lives in relation to our family, caregivers, teachers, employers and friends; the same points of difference that we feel in relation to our government systems, religious groups, mass media and collective society; the things that don’t resonate with us, that deep down we’ve always wanted to see being done differently. When we combine the things we love to do with our passion to create the change we’d love to see in the world, we connect with our purpose.  When we determine who we want to be and be the change we want to see, we awaken to our truth.

Here are my 7 Secret Steps to Power-Up Your Purpose:

  1. Ask For Guidance

Ask to be guided towards the people, places and things that will help you connect with your purpose. To help you set the intention to receive clear messages light a candle and let go of any feelings of urgency or fear. Know that you will receive all the guidance you need at the perfect time in the perfect way.

  1. Listen and Notice

Guidance will come through the feelings you have in your body, images you see in your sleep or mind’s eye, pictures that catch your attention, thoughts and ideas that enter your head, words or songs that seem meant for you, and synchronicities that occur during your day to day comings and goings.

  1. Trust and Act

When you receive guidance it will feel expansive, exciting, empowering and encouraging – trust it and act on it. This will often mean letting go of things no longer serving you in your life and often making significant changes in the way you do things, when guided to move out of your comfort zone and be more.

  1. Connect with Your Passions

Create time each day being creative and doing something you love – even if only for 10 minutes at first, aim to gradually increase the amount of time you spend connecting with your passions, day by day, week on week. You’ll feel more and more alive the longer you spend each day enjoying exploring the things that make you feel alive.

  1. Dream Your Dreams

Who would you be and what would you do, if you knew you couldn’t get it wrong, that everyone would be supportive and that you had all the resources you needed to succeed? Take one small step each day towards that vision of yourself living your dream.

  1. Tell Your Truth

Living your purpose means living your truth. Anything you cover up, hide, deny or lie about takes your energy out of alignment. People can sense when you’re not being honest, so there’s not really any point in fibbing about things – yet we so often bend the truth to try and ‘protect’ others and ourselves. Notice how often you feel the urge to tell a white lie here and there. Make the choice to replace each lie with the truth, delivered with love, and notice the powerful difference this makes in your life. You might be surprised at how positively people respond when you are completely honest with them even when giving them bad news or telling them about something you don’t like.

  1. Admire, Accept and Affirm

Admire the beauty within yourself. Look at yourself in the mirror. Look deep into your eyes and really see yourself. Affirm to the beauty within you “I completely love and accept you…” (followed by your name).  Admire, accept and affirm the beauty in others too! See the beauty in everyone you meet and in the wonderful world around you.  Look people in the eyes, see their true beauty and smile J
