BOOK REVIEW: FRESH CLEAN HOME

The chemicals we use to clean our homes could actually be worse for us than the dirt we’re clearing up! They make may our homes look clean, but at the same time they could be seriously impacting our health.

Many everyday household cleaners are full of toxic chemicals, which are bad for us and the environment, And, as if that isn’t enough to put you off – many of them are also tested on animals.

The good news is, there are alternatives that you can make yourself, which are safe, eco-friendly, not tested on animals – and kind to your pocket.

In Wendy Graham’s book ‘Fresh Clean Home’ the author explains how to use natural ingredients (like lemons, vinegar, and essential oils) to create your own safe and effective cleaning products for every room in your home.

The book starts by giving you an easy shopping list of ‘must have’ items—for example, bicarbonate of soda; jojoba oil; vodka (yes, really!)—and explains the equipment you’ll need (glass jars, hand blender, funnel etc.) and then takes you from room to room in your house offering safe, chemical-free recipes to keep the room and its contents clean and smelling sweet.

Wendy also covers laundry, dishwasher tablets, stain removal, body scrubs (well, we need to keep ourselves clean too), and mildew removal.

Every recipe is simple, easy to follow. Each includes how to make the item and then how to use it.  The book even has a directory of places that sell the items you’ll need.

Making your own natural cleaning products is a great way to keep your home clean, safe and free of chemicals. And you’ll be helping the planet and your pocket at the same time.
