I love eyelash extensions – they make you look great whether you’ve just woken up, have had a long day, are going ‘au naturel’ on holiday or really just couldn’t be bothered with the make-up that morning.

The trouble is, in my experience, they haven’t been very good for my own eyelashes – leaving them short and sparse and my eyes looking far from their best and in desperate need of… you guessed it… another set of eyelash extensions.

So, as a result, I vowed to stay away and give my lashes a rest. However, I was tempted back to the land of the lashes by Perfect Eyelashes in Kensington Olympia.

Agnes, the owner, took a look at my lashes and said (politely) they didn’t look to be in very good condition, therefore she’d need to use a particular type of very light weight lash and ensure it was attached only to the strongest of my own lashes. In this way it would give the weaker lashes a chance to grow and new, stronger lashes to develop. Although this clearly made sense I was a little concerned that my eyelash extensions would therefore look a little ‘lacking’ rather than ‘luscious’.

Perfect Eyelashes use three types of lashes:- Mink lashes (weightless lashes made from fibre) Diamond lashes (made from silk) and Natural lashes – made from natural human hair. All lashes are high quality and weightless to ensure that the natural lashes will not get damaged. Agnes recommended the Diamond Lashes for me.

I was able to choose the length and width of lashes to ensure I got the look I wanted. The lashes are then applied individually, using a black coloured adhesive which blends in with the lashes, and does not come into contact with the skin.

Application takes nearly two hours, but it’s very relaxing – I just lay there (trying not to snore if I fell asleep) while the technician very gently applied the individual lashes. Thankfully there were no ‘going anywhere nice on holiday?’ questions – so I was able to relax and let her do all the work while I dreamed of my new look.

And did the look match the dream?

Yes. Even these lighter lashes looked full, long, and utterly gorgeous – and not a hint of the OTT TOWIE look ether.

They lasted a good four weeks and ensured that during my three week trip to South America (where they were subjected to everything from the freezing cold and rain at the southern tip of the continent to hot sun and sub-tropical humidity on the Argentina-Brazil border) I had wide, defined eyes without needing to reach for the makeup bag once.

But even better than that… as the last of them fell out I was thrilled to see my own lashes looked healthier and thicker than they had in a long time. The extensions had hidden the damage and allowed it to repair. Bonus!

So it looks like my eyelash extension addiction is safe – I can indulge without worrying about the harmful side-effects.
